Seasonal Depression

Seasonal depression is also known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It is called seasonal depression because it occurs every year at exactly the same time. Seasonal depression usually starts in winter or fall and ends in either spring or early summer.

People will be able to observe that a person suffering from seasonal depression show the same symptoms as the normal and ordinary depression, the only difference is that this depression happens at the exact same time and season every year. A person that suffers seasonal depression can experience at least one of these symptoms: anxiety, sadness, he/she easily gets irritated, the sudden loss of interest in things they normally do, being anti-social, and is easily distracted. For more depression symptoms.

What people are not aware of is that there are two kinds of seasonal depression and that they have different effects on people who are experiencing them. These two kinds of seasonal depression are the Winter SAD and Summer SAD. As said earlier they are both depressions that profoundly affect the people who have them in many different ways.

The first kind of seasonal depression is the Winter SAD, and obviously from the word, people who experience this kind of seasonal depression suffers the symptoms during winter, every winter. The effects of this seasonal depression on the sufferers are also related to the season they acquire this disorder. To further describe the effect of this seasonal depression to those who have it, the symptoms are as follows: Sudden increase in their need for sleep, decrease in their energy to do the things that they usually do and mostly love to do, sudden increase in appetite and body weight, and sudden need to be alone all the time.

On the other hand, the other type of seasonal depression is the Summer SAD. The symptoms of this other kind of seasonal depression are: sudden decrease in weight and appetite, and trouble getting some sleep.

As you can observe from these two kinds of seasonal depression, aside from the fact that they are the exact opposites of each other, one can also see the evident contrast in their effects in the people that are suffering from them. It can also be seen that the effects of these two kinds of seasonal depression depend on the effects of the season when the depression menifests.

The people who commonly and oddly experience seasonal depression are women, but with regards to the geographical location people who are commonly affected by the seasonal depression are those who lives in on the extreme north or the extreme south. The reason for this is that these places are more prone to more extreme changes in seasons, thus the seasonal depression.
